Project Learn
Project Learn reinforces and enhances the skills and knowledge young people learn at school through “high-yield” learning activities at the Club and in the home. Based on Dr. Reginald Clark’s research that shows fun, but academically beneficial activities increase academic performance, these activities include leisure reading, writing activities, homework help and games like Scrabble® which develop young people’s cognitive skills. Project Learn emphasizes collaborations between Club staff, parents and school personnel. With support of the Boys & Girls Club of America, and Merck, Project Learn has been proven to boost the academic performance of Club members.
Power Hour
Power Hour: Making Minutes Count provides members with the support, resources and guidance necessary to complete their homework – and start the school day with a sense of confidence and ability. As members complete homework assignments and bonus activities, they accumulate Power Points, which may be used to obtain Power Rewards – prizes, activities and incentives. In addition, Power Hour offers tutoring assistance for members who need additional work in special areas.
Career Launch
Career Launch encourages Club members to assess their skills and interests, explore careers, make sound educational decisions, and prepare for future careers. Club staff and volunteers help teens build their job-search skills and job readiness by using the Career Launch Facilitator Guide and working with teens individually or in small groups. Club members are led through online career exploration, college and job searches, mentoring and job shadowing or training opportunities.
